Marangu Route is a 6-day climbing route to 5,895m, known for "Coca-Cola Route" — hut accommodation. It's built as a fully-supported itinerary with a professional mountain crew throughout.
The defining feature of the Marangu route.
Certified lead guide, assistant guides, cook and porters — fully insured and daily health-checked.
Four-season tents, a private dining tent, and freshly prepared meals throughout the trek.
Presented at the finishing gate on your descent.
Register and collect permits at Marangu Gate after the drive from Moshi through Marangu village, then ascend through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut. Expect muddy, slippery lower sections — gaiters and trekking poles recommended.
The trail leaves the rainforest for heathland dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels, with a lunch-stop view of Mawenzi. Arrive at Horombo Hut by late afternoon to a striking view of the Kibo summit.
A rest day at the huts, with the option of a walk up to Mawenzi base camp and back — built in specifically to aid acclimatization before continuing to Kibo Hut the next day.
Past the last water point and across the saddle — a vast desert plain between Mawenzi and Kibo — to Kibo Hut, followed by an early dinner ahead of the midnight summit push.
The most demanding stretch of the climb — a pre-dawn ascent over steep scree (occasionally snow) to Gilman's Point (5,861m) on the crater rim, on to Uhuru Peak around sunrise, then descent all the way back down to Horombo Hut the same day.
Final descent with a lunch stop at Mandara Hut — a good moment to tip your guides, cooks and porters — before reaching Marangu Gate for your summit certificate and the drive back to your hotel.
