A guided trek through Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park for an hour face-to-face with a wild mountain gorilla family.
Mountain gorilla trekking is one of Africa's most sought-after wildlife experiences — a guided walk through dense montane forest that ends with a strictly-limited hour beside a habituated gorilla family. We run treks out of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, and tailor the rest of your itinerary — safari days, Zanzibar time, or a Kilimanjaro climb — around your trekking date.
What travellers usually ask before booking this style.
In Uganda, standard permits are $800 per person (foreign non-resident), dropping to around $600 during the April, May and November low season — though low-season permits can't be rescheduled once paid. In Rwanda, the standard permit is $1,500 per person. Prices are set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Rwanda Development Board and are reviewed periodically, so we always confirm the current rate when we quote your trip.
A maximum of 8 trekkers are permitted per gorilla family per day — this limit is set by the park authorities specifically to minimize stress on the gorillas, not by us.
You don't need to be an athlete, but the terrain is genuinely uneven forest — some treks are a short, easy walk, others involve a few hours of climbing through undergrowth. Porters are available to carry your bag and help on steeper sections, and we'll match your trek difficulty to your fitness level where the park allows it.
Yes — it's one of our most popular combinations. Many travellers pair a Bwindi or Volcanoes trek with a Serengeti, Ngorongoro or Maasai Mara safari, or a Zanzibar beach extension. We'll sequence the logistics (flights and border transfers included) so nothing feels rushed.
Tell us your travel dates — permits book out months ahead, so a specialist will check availability and design your gorilla trekking itinerary around it.
