The name Serengeti translates to “endless plains” in the Maasai language. The park is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers, and photographers.
For animal lovers, in the Serengeti, it is normal to spot four of the five big five animals which are lions, leopards, buffaloes, and elephants.
The Savannah of the Serengeti is also famous for the annual wildebeest migration where about a million of them trek across the beautiful landscape in search of fresh water and grass. It’s easy to track this migration, starting in the south(Ndutu region) from December through March before working its way through the Grumeti River (Western Serengeti) and up to the north from July to October. The spectacular Serengeti is a beautiful year-round destination and you don’t necessarily need to follow the migration to enjoy your trip it may sometimes be more captivating to avoid crowds for a more exclusive experience.
On day 3 you will wind up your day by exiting The Serengeti and heading towards the Ngorongoro highlands where you shall be accommodated for the night in preparation for your descent into the Crater.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is in northern Tanzania. It’s home to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and hosts the “big 5” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). Huge herds of wildebeests and zebras traverse its plains during their annual migration.
Early in the morning after breakfast, proceed directly to the Crater floor for a full-day crater tour (Hot lunch included).
The Ngorongoro crater is one of the few places in Tanzania where you are likely to see the endangered black rhino as a small population of them reside in this protected area. Many Flamingos are also attracted to the soda waters of Lake Magadi.
The crater is about 600 meters deep and has a floor area of about 260 square kilometers thereby making it the largest dormant caldera in the world.
The most ideal time to visit Ngorongoro is from June to October during the dry season since it becomes easier to spot many animals during this season because there is less greenery.
Welcome to Lake Manyara National Park, widely known for its tree-climbing lions. The soda ash lake attracts thousands of pink flamingos and one of Tanzania’s largest elephants, as well as the breathtaking world.
Today you will visit Lake Manyara National Park for a full-day game drive. Stretching along the base of the Rift Valley it is home to giant fig trees, acacia woodlands, mahogany trees & grassy flood plains.
Lake Manyara serves as a delight to bird watchers as it provides to Tanzania’s bird life with more than 500 species being on display in various corners of the park but the most noticeable is the majestic pink flamingos that prefer to spend their time basking by the lake itself.
Animals such as buffalo, wildebeests, giraffes, mongoose, dik-diks & zebra herds congregate on the grassy plains while the acacia woodland is home to the legendary tree-climbing lions & tusked elephants.
Following a delicious breakfast, you’ll start the drive to Lake Eyasi. Along the edge of this lovely lake, you will see a wide variety of bird life, and the location by itself makes it a perfect place to stay for a few nights.
Numerous animals, including the elusive leopard, hippos, several species of monkeys, and most significantly, a large number of larger and lesser flamingos, call the shore’s meadows home. In the woodland clearings beside the lake, there are several nice private lodges and tented camps that offer fantastic lodging and are constructed as much as possible from local resources.
Start your mini-adventure with a short but intriguing journey from Arusha to Materuni, a town located about 1,800 meters above sea level, up the verdant slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
This region is known for its market gardens and has the ideal soil and climate conditions to produce some of the greatest coffee in Africa. Visit a coffee farm where you’ll discover how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed. You’ll also get a chance to roast your beans and make a cup of coffee the Chagga way.
You’ll enjoy a pleasant 45-minute stroll through the hills and valleys on the way to the Materuni Falls after a delightful coffee break (so much nicer than the ones at work!). You’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations, up and down mini-valleys, across ridges, and through narrow splashing rivulets. Along the way, your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, as well as give you more insight into the local Chagga culture.
Later you will be heading to Chemka Hot Spring, a warm geothermal oasis that emerges from the earth. The Chemka Hot Springs, which are surrounded by a lush forest teeming with the sounds of birds and monkeys, is the perfect location to unwind after a tough climb up Kilimanjaro. They’re a little slice of heaven, ideal for a day trip, and the inviting warm blue seas beckon you to stay and relax or go swimming or exploring.
The best swimming location is most likely here. The geothermal warmed water, which emanates from deep inside the earth and is regularly replenished, is exceptionally pure, fresh, and clear. It’s a great place to unwind after a safari or spend some time with family.
